The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®) today announced the launch of GEMx! The program’s official launch follows successful completion of a one-year pilot, during which 20 medical schools from 16 countries, and their students, used GEMx as part of their undergraduate medical education exchange process.

Now, all medical schools from around the world are invited to join the GEMx partnership; to enjoy the benefits of GEMx’s centralized, paperless elective management system; and to offer the benefits of GEMx to their students.

Speaking about the new program, Emmanuel G. Cassimatis, M.D., ECFMG’s President & Chief Executive Officer, said, “The goal of GEMx—to increase access to international exchanges in medical education—will help provide the world’s future physicians with the international perspective required to meet health care needs in an increasingly globalized world. It also speaks directly to ECFMG’s mission of enhancing medical education and promoting quality health care.”

GEMxSM Sponsors FAIMER’s 2014 International Medical Education Day

Filed under: General, Meetings & Conferences

On October 22, 2014, GEMx was proud to sponsor the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research’s (FAIMER’s) 2014 International Medical Education (IME) Day. The event was marked by an intensive four-hour face-to-face and virtual workshop titled “Global Student Exchanges: How Can They Work for Everyone?” Dr. Jon Dowell, Head of the Division of Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Dundee, Scotland, led the workshop, which focused on global exchanges as they relate to students, faculty, and health professions institutions. More than 100 health professions educators, administrators, students, and guests exchanged ideas and knowledge on the roles of home and host institutions offering exchanges, moral and ethical issues, fair and equitable exchanges, and identifying success principles to design evaluation models. Dr. Dowell described the workshop participants as “almost certainly the largest team of experienced educators to ever collectively consider these issues.”

GEMx would like to thank FAIMER for the wonderful opportunity to interact with some of the world’s finest health professions educators, many of whom expressed interest in GEMx’s efforts to foster international exchanges through partnerships.
