Can my institution join GEMxsm?

How long are GEMx electives?

The exact duration of an elective is established by the institution hosting the elective. Most electives are expected to last from four to 12 weeks.

When are electives offered?

Each institution participating in GEMx establishes when its electives are offered. Institutions have the ability to offer electives throughout the year on a rolling basis through GEMx.

Are electives for other health professions offered through GEMx?

Although only clinical and research educational electives for undergraduate medical students are currently available, GEMx is expanding beyond medicine to the other health professions and is actively exploring relationships with new institutions worldwide to offer educational exchange opportunities across the health professions. Are global and public health electives available through GEMx?

Global and public health electives as well as observerships may be offered through GEMx.

Can individuals in postgraduate training use GEMx?

Currently, only clinical and research educational electives for undergraduate medical students are available through GEMx. Global and public health electives as well as observerships may also be offered. It is possible that GEMx will expand to include exchange opportunities in postgraduate training in medicine and the health professions, as well as opportunities for faculty members in the future. What are the fees for institutions to participate in GEMx?

If your institution is interested in becoming a GEMx Partner, please contact us directly at info@gemxelectives.org for more information about the annual GEMx membership fee.

What are the fees for students to use GEMx?

An important goal of GEMx is to keep the program affordable, so that as many institutions and students as possible have the opportunity to engage in elective exchanges. Currently, no fees are being charged by GEMx to students participating in the GEMx program.

My institution has existing relationships/partnerships with other institutions to offer exchange electives. How will joining GEMx affect those relationships?

An institution’s participation in GEMx does not replace any existing partnerships or partnership agreements established by the institution for educational exchange outside of GEMx.
